One of a small handful of local teams to have qualified for the OHF Championships next month, the Copper Cliff Midget “AA” Redmen captured the Nickel District Minor Hockey League banner Tuesday night in Blind River.
The Redmen received two goal efforts from both Noah Stargratt and Keegan Gillis-McAnulty, blanking the Thunder 5-0. Jason Gough rounded out the scoring, while Nick Larocque recorded the shutout in net for Copper Cliff.
The team was coming off a strong tournament performance in Toronto, losing in the final of the Toronto Aeros Mark Woszczyna Spring Classic. The Redmen were joined at the tournament by the Sudbury Minor Peewee “AA” Wolves, who advanced to the semi-finals before being eliminated with a 4-0 loss at the hands of the Brampton 45’s.
The remaining local crew that will take to the ice from April 8th to the 10th will be the Nickel City Bantam "AA" Jr Sons, competing in North York, while the Redmen travel to Brampton to compete.
